Kun Lee

Kun H. Lee was born and raised in a family that manufactured bicycles in Korea, but his true love was art, so against his family’s wishes, he ran away from home at a young age to pursue a degree in Graphic Design. As he developed as an artist, he began teaching artistic techniques to students preparing for Korea’s notoriously demanding private University exams. Before finishing his degree in 1980, Lee jumped at the chance to immigrate to the United States, where he began teaching in a local gallery in Greenville, NC. He realized he could make a living as an artist, so eventually opened a small art and frame gallery that grew rapidly. Lee offered classes in the gallery as well as solo exhibitions. Lee is a lover of travel, and through his travels he is always looking for new fresh subject matter for his paintings. Occasionally, Lee attends plein air excursions (painting on location) and setting up still life situations where he can observe and study light. Mostly, he depends on the photos from his travels to inspire new work. Aside from looking for uniqueness, a good color palette and interesting composition, he likes to paint subject matter that evokes movement and light. Despite the many obstacles and challenges, Lee has faced on his journey from Korea to the United States, he has brought his aspirations into fruition through his artwork. Kun Lee is now a citizen of the United States. He is married and currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. His paintings can be found in numerous private collections and corporate collections as well.
